However, the personal attention, reporting methods, and responses to email inquiries when you're dealing with a company that runs their own affiliate program is so much better, that the affiliates in turn produce better results as they have better information to work with.
A site that runs its own affiliate program needs to work harder to find and recruit affiliates than just by joining a network like CJ, but as an affiliate, I much prefer to work with those sites.
Has anyone ever done an analysis of results of running your own affiliate program as opposed to joining a network and if the affiliates produce better on one or the other or if total sales are better in one way or another? That would be intersting to see.
