Hello All,

Over the weekend I came across FastClick from another post where on WW. I did some research and it sounded interesting. I called them but they could not give me much information so I'm hoping my fellow webmasters might help me out a bit.

I am a Travel type website and I get over 2,000 uniques per day and arouind 20,000 page view per day. I asked Fastclick how much of a return I might expect with that type of traffic but he didn't seem very interested in helping me out to analyse my situation.

I applied to Fastclick in the off chance I decided to run ads from them and I was approved. Now I have to decide if I'm going to run there ads or not. I would prefer no banners on my site but money talks!

I am hoping to generate at lest $500/month to offset my bandwidth fees.

Can anyone out there is first hand experiance with fastclick and hopefully in the travel industry give me any advice?

Thanks,
daisho

With your numbers, I'd estimate (assuming that google has adwords clients for your keywords) that you're going to fall significantly short of $500/mo. with just the fastclick 468x60 banner campaigns.

I don't want to run 468x60. Skyscrappers is what I'm considering. Possibly Pop-Unders. Definatly not InViews.

I can’t give good information on travel sites, Fastclick doesn’t have a category for my site so we get the run-of-network ads. However, I started using Fastclick over a year ago when my site was getting about 5,000 page views per month and stopped running their ads last week (we’re at about 1.8M page views/month now) because it just isn’t worth checking the Fastclick account to see how many pennies I earned the day before.

During January of this year, the last month I ran both pop-unders and banner ads from Fastclick, I earned a whopping $26.60. Of course, I only run ads for my non-subscribers but during January that could have been in excess of 500,000 page views to over 7,500 unique visitors. Unfortunately, Fastclick didn’t even come close to filling all of my ad space and ran default (a.k.a. non-paying) ads for over 85% of the potential impressions.

Fastclick was the ad network that convinced me that I needed to go to a subscriber setup if I wanted to make money. I now use Bannerspace for my excess banners but if you are expecting $500/month, I don’t see it happening with them either. IMHO, you would be MUCH better off with affiliate programs.

It looks like running banners is not for me. $500 was just an arbitrary number I pulled. It's not worth it to me do devalue my site to visitors by running banners for anything less. Just wanted to get impressions before I ran for a couple months and went hope with 30 bucks :)

I am sorry, when you said that its better of goiin with a affiliate program, can you give examples. I am sorry if its a repeated question.

Thanks

Dig around your favorite search engines for "affiliate program <your pet keyword here>" searches.

>to fall significantly short of $500/mo.

Ya, the old banner market aint what it used to be.

I don't get that much traffic, but with Fastclick I'm making over $1/thousand page views. I don't know how many unique visitors I have.

So for 20,000 page views I should make over $20/day, which would be $600/month. The popunders account for more than half of the total, so perhaps you could make $300/month with just popunders, maybe. Hope this helps, but you results will vary!

I do run both banners and skyscrapers on the majority of pages, and a popunder on most (of course it only loads once per visitor, but I get many visitors to odd pages.)

I don't use banners or skyscrapers but this month i'm making $1.88 per 1000 popunders and $1.18 per thousand invue ads. Remember fast click doesn't show an ad to every visitor knock a few $ of your estimated earnings.

Well, I guess I'm doing something wrong.

I have a site that has averaged over 3 million page views per month and over 150,000 unique visitors. I run fastclick pop-unders, 468x60 banners, an occasional skyscraper and, up until a couple months ago, I've been getting about $150 on average from it. Only recently has it grown to almost $300 (thanks to google adwords). Still $300 for 3,000,000 page views is far short of what you are generating?!

I'm confused.

Well, I can't really tell without looking at your site, but this is what I did.

I noticed that I was getting a lot of visitors that did not go to my index page, I have a lot of pages. So I put the popunder code on almost every page. Fastclick only serves one popunder PER VISITOR, so each visitor only gets one, but now EVERY visitor gets one. This increased my income a lot.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I have it running on most of my pages. I thought about something else that it may be though. I'm using their recommended popunder code (once per 12 hours) as opposed to the once per session code. So my repeat visitors are not getting a pop under more then once every 12 hours. I'm sure if I switched to the per session option that it would increase. I wonder if that's the difference?

I like the 12 hour code because it's less annoying to my loyal visitors, but dang... if I can really increase my revenue 10x it's very tempting to switch it! :)

Might help, let us know if it makes a difference. I don't think I get visitors that come more than once a day, so it wouldn't help me much. If you get a good increase I may try it too, although I don't look forward to changing the code on 300 pages!
