How to make money on blogging?

It's getting harder and harder.
Now that there are about a 100 million blogs worldwide, nobody seems to read them anymore.
And since most blogs are actually about, well about nothing really, I can't blame them.
My own blog has pure quality content of course;-)
Well at least I gave it a specified topic.
But my blog is doing extremely bad business compared to my other websites.
It looks like blog readers are not very likely to click ads or buy stuff from websites. I do knwow however that some WW-members are doing very well with Adsense on their blogs...

My blog is with Blogger.
It's easy to put Adsense`on it and I also use CJ on my blog pages. Looks great but again, the earnings are not so impressive...

Oh ok. Yeah, I see a lot of blogs via Blogger. I can see that it would be tough to make any revenue from that ... there's so many now. But, then again, if you're writing/providing good stuff people will keep coming back :)

Most of my sites now include a blog, I often create static pages and place the blog in a directory folder.

Then I use a parse my rss feed to the homepage (static) to keep the homepage fresh.

I like to blog about time sensative topics and or hobbies I am intrested in. I have a blog for halloween, the tour de france, cooking and others.

Like any other webpage marketing it is just about understanding what people are searching for and giving them what they want.

I have been testing out various ad programs for revenue... so far the best I can do is adsense. Some sites however can do well with affiliate programs is your can get around google and how they now like to penalize sites with aff links.

I personally use wordpress on host my own sites, it takes a lot of work to get a site ranking but once it does your in the money. I am closing in on 3k a month from google, nothing to write home about however I have increased my earnings now for three months in a row.

July should be off the hook with the tour and then I have halloween.... after that I have my next niche picked out and will start launching that.

I think the most important aspects are understand what people are search for and creating pages based on those terms.

Also writing about stuff your passionate about ... that helps keep you going for the first 6 months with no income.

To make really good money from blogs you'll either have to:

1) Be in a really hot or profitable niche

2) Have at least one huge blog that draws a ton of traffic

or

3) Have a whole network of topics and just go for the 80/20 rule and see what fits.

One thing that my non-blogging webmaster friends never seemed to understand, is that software like WordPress is basically a well-oiled static website creating, SEO-friendly machine.

In many ways, a "blog" vs. a "website" is just semantics. You can use blogging software to create static websites and vise versa.

One thing I will recommend is that you stick to your passions.

We've tried playing the "high-paying" keyword game in our blog network and have been sorely disappointed for the most part. (The blogs that we are passionate about have done much better, despite lower paying keywords in theory!)

Brian, does that mean you basically place a list of links/snippets to your latest blog entries on your home page?

Yes, I simply take my own rss feed (one of the many benefits from blogging) and pull it in using carp (a free rss parser) to my homepage. This way you can take a "website" that you have had for a while and is already ranking and you can create a blog within that site and domain and you can get the lastest updates on your homepage.

Definatly stick with topics your passionate about, it just takes too long to see any type of money for any new site or blog. If your passionate you will be able to hang on better as your getting your new site/blog established.

All my websites are blogs but you probably would not notice unless you knew what a blog was.

I use Wordpress and find that it is by far the easiest and most configureable CMS that I have used or considered.

And especially if you use this very nice Wordpress Adsense plugin you can make great blogs that could make you a buck or two!

99.99% of blogs are crap. To put it bluntly, just your average jo regergitating something from the net and trying to make it look original, either others pages, ideas, or news events.

If you want to make money, then first you have to have something unique to say.

Why SHOULD anyone read your work?

Go for quality and the rest will follow.

Agreed, that is why I am blogging about things I know about and am passionate about such as the Tour de France, American Idol and cooking.

I think most fail because they chase the $$

CJ is an affiliate company that pays merchants per performance. In other words if you are likely to become a merchant of CJ, an advertiser for CJ, CJ will pay you per affiliate sale that actually comes off your site.

You would put up banners or text on your site, advertising CJ's clients and earn commissions per sale.
