New to advertising - established site needs advice!

Hi All,

I have a question about advertising that I hope someone can help with.

I have a well indexed, established site that gets around 400,000 page views a month. I have no advertising currently but would like to start. Who should I use? Google Adsense? Yahoo? MSN? An affiliate? I found a company called Burst Media - anyone heard of them? Any advice would be great. I need to earn some additional revenue if I am going to keep the site going!

Also, how much can I reasonably expect to make?

Some sites may due better on certain types of networks. Also dependent on the content of your site, some offers and advertisements might make you more revenue than others.

So what is best for a niche market? Kid friendly, monitored...

adsense is a good (easy) place to start. if you are not satifiued with the results, you would probably do well to then research specific affiliate partners that would work well with your content.

That what I was just thinking. I have been trying to reach ad agencies ALL morning - no one answers their phone. I would think they would want to sign up good publishers.

Valueclick, Casale, Tribal Fusion, Adsense and others are all good places to start.

I've been with Burst since 1999 and found them good, not great. They have good months and bad, but since achieving better traffic numbers, find their fill rates falling.

I went with Burst and Google Adsense. Very low rates on both - not sure it's worth keeping. With Burst the ads I chose don't seem to be showing up. I need to look into it more.

Tribal Fusion never answered the phone and I got standard email responses. I got the impression that they didn't think I was worth talking to - not impressed with them at all.

If your site is of a "general" topic (movies, some sports, music, home & Family stuff) your traffic is well below where you'll get interest from agencies.

On the other hand, if you have a very specialized hign-end market niche, you just might get someone interested.

With your traffic, AdSense could provide an income in the $30K/annual range, and seems like a good choice. One again, however, it depends on what advertisiers are willing to pay for your niche. A forum site, for example, would bring next to nothing at your traffic level. A content-rich, well written site directed to a highly competitive market could bring in twice what I estimated above.

Yahoo Ads...

they give more to customer than keeping for them like google adsense , google keeps more for theirselves rather than giving to customer. i have a friend who really made a difference with Yahoo Ads he had been using google adsense but was not getting much and then tried yahoo ads and he is happy now :)

Not from what I saw!

My content is highly specialized - niche market. I tried Google and Burst. I noticed a 30% drop in membership. I took the ads off and boom - membership shot back up again. I don't know which one is to blame but it's not worth it. I lost more trying it than I gained.

This might not work with the kind of membership set-up you have (whatever it is), but some forums have free memberships where members see ads, then also offer paid "premium" memberships where the member, after logging in, isn't served any ads.

My membership is free and members didn't see any ads once they logged in.

I will suggest you will check some affiliate program. There are some good program, good convert rate that will pay you from $30-$70 per sign up.

I dont know what your site is all about so I cant really recommand you .
