"We want to publish a photo from Your web site in a brochure, please send us the original"
One phone call later, I agreed with the sender of the email on 200.-EUR for the publishing rights in this brochure.
In the meantime, the money is on my account, and I think about how to make selling photos from my website a regular business.
Is there something similar like Google Adsense selling publishing rights from my photos and sending me all the money at the end of the month?
There are also some sites that let you list stock photos for sale and usually charge 50-100 per use. I don't know as I would list photos with one of the subscription or cheap sites. Depends on what they're worth to you and whether or not you want them diluted in that way.
When you sell, make sure you give them only a one-time non-exclusive right (or get more money).
By the way, I just had a similar thing happen to me. I have a bunch of pictures ranging from awful to excellent on a hobby site that really doesn't bring in money and isn't really intended to. Last month I got a cold call from National Geographic and sold them an image. That was a surprise and it also got me thinking that maybe some of my pictures are worth something... separating the wheat from the chaff woudl be a bit of a chore, but it has changed the way I look at my camera.
