1) Stuff that is pretty much very straightforward data. I do better with databases and lists than I do with "I made 11,763.47 in one day"
2) Stuff with a unique message and salesmanship. There are two programs out of probably 25 competing products in my "find blue widgets" niche that convert much higher than the others. They do a much better job of selling once the visitor makes the hop and so I accordingly promote them much more heavily. Educate yourself, because clickbank always has a slew of imitators of popular products. Sell the good stuff.
3) I make my own ads (text), but I use the sales language from the vendor. I dont ever hook up their banners etc. I do that so I can maintain the look and feel on my end. Multiple products look a lot better and a lot less like ads when they are in a consistent format under your control.
4) I position it like adsense and add it to related content. I went from reasonable success with home page positions mixed into the content links to good success by placing it to the side of search results from a product database.
If I ever find the time, I really wnat to do some pre-sell landing pages for my best sellers. When you are sending to those 'long page' sites, I think that you might attract some visitors by putting your own original review and recommendation, that is much more brief - basically bullet points that gives the visitor better feedback about the decision to go off your site or not.
Hope this helps!

If it wasn't free, then it was something like "Find out the real details on blahblah" or "Learn what the big guys don't want you to know" or similar silly stuff. :-)
I was sort of messing around with different ad code, and was surprised how well that worked.
What did you mean, gopi? I'd be interested to know as well. I only play with Adwords from time to time, but I don't really use it to make money. It's more of a hobby and a learning kind of thing.
