Quick question about the Amazon affiliate program.

Do I need to register with .com, co.uk, .fr, .de etc etc if my website members live all over the world and will buy from their LOCAL amazon website.

E.g, if I JUST have a .com search bar and I click on it from the UK and go to amazon.com but then click on amazon.co.uk from amazon.com and order something would that work?

It's a pain to enroll everywhere if this is not the case!

Regards

If you only register with amazon.com, then only sales from amazon.com will give you commissions. It would certainly be nice to have just 1 registration!

Thx for the reply, i'm sure Amazon have their reasons for this, but it's very very stupid if you don't know those reasons!

I'm sure there are business/legal/financial reasons for doing it. Changing it just to make it convenient for associates is akin to the tail wagging the dog.

I wondered this. Someone mentioned using something called 'cloaking. So an ad from whichever amazon would show up for a user from that particular country.

Not sure if you need to register with all of them. Email and ask.

It's not like Adsense - it doesn't figure out where the viewer is from and show items from the local area. Any geo-location has to be done in your own code after you have signed up for all the local Amazons.

Have fun signing up for Amazon Japan (it can be done if you compare page layout with other Amazon sign up pages))

To a certain degree (how high of a degree, I don't know), the various "amazons" are run separately, so each has its own associates program.

My main problem with this is figuring out how to use the links for several programs without confusing visitors. Any ideas?

An Amazon representative once said (in one of their regular Associates Chat sessions) that they were looking to merge the associate programs. I think that was about a year ago, though, and haven't heard anything since. Shame.
