Newb question: Anyone ever implement a system that doesn't display ads

if the user clicks on your ad once?

That is, if you're running a website, you have a setup where if visitors click an ad once, then they never see that ad again (using a cookie or something). I was originally thinking this would work to eliminate ads for regular visitors (that is, why show an ad if the visitor has never and probably will never click it anyway because they're simply not interested in that product), but you could also use it to serve a fresh ad once someone has clicked a previous ad. Mostly interested in the former, though. You'd have some text indicating that the visitor would never have to see an ad again if they click it once, etc. etc.

Would this work?

It's done all the time Hugh, ad rotation is the phrase I beleive. Check out hotscripts or similar, there are tons of programs for this.

As for effectiveness, well I've not done it buy Y! do and many other big boys...

Do current ad rotation systems track and adjust to which ads the visitor has clicked on?

What about the part about hiding ads for those who have already clicked on that ad? I was thinking it would be a strong incentive for someone to click on an ad...

I like that idea.
Many of my (regular) visitors would love that too, I guess,
a add free site after one click.
I'm not a programmer, but I think it would only take a textfile to store ip adressen for 24 ours.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if my "add seller" like to see a text like that on my site, especially on a ppc program.
