New site. ad question

I'm starting up a new site and I want to run ads down the right hand side of the website. If the idea works I will get lots of traffic to the site. It really doesn'e matter what the ads are but I would prefer ads that have deals. I just want to get paid if someone click on the ads.

Are there any companies or programs that will let me run ads without me paying them a start up fee.

That's where you are wrong my friend. The more relative the ads are to the content of your site the higher click through rate you will recieve.

Being new to this, I suggest starting out with Google Adsense. Their ads are context sensitive, so they will automatically display relative ads depending on what the content of the page is.

I just have a couple of problems. One is that I'm providing a service where by I will have little to no content on the site. The other problem is the site will attract all walks of life so I don't know what ads to run. I just need a program where I can pick the ads running down the right side. Thanks for the adsense advice.

sbskater10 offers good advice. It really does matter what the context is of the ads which are shown. The more relevant they are to the page content, the more likely a visitor will click them. Secondly, if you want to get paid when a visitor clicks, then Adsense would be a good option, as most affiliate programs pay only when a transaction (sale) is completed, regardless of how many clicks you've had.

I may be teaching Grandma to suck eggs here - in which case apologies!, but in case you're not familiar with Adsense, read the Adsense forum on here - it's full of great tips and advice, then read, read, and re-read the Adsense TOS before putting it on your site!

IMHO, any company which requests a start-up fee from you in order to display their ads on your site should be avoided like the plague. The whole point of displaying advertising is they pay you, not the other way around :)

In that case, do read the Adsense TOS carefully before considering putting it on your site, as one of the criteria is that a site should have some content!

Do you know of any other ad sevices you can point me too? Is fastclick and commission junction the same type of program as google adsense?

Fastclick and CJ are affiliate networks. Adsense is strickly CPC. I believe FastClick has some CPC stuff but you need a high volume site just to get approved.

Try Yahoo Publisher Network, they are still in beta but they have been getting rave reviews by publishers because of their high payout rates.
