What are the consequences for us folks who get revenue from advertising networks like Burst and FastClick, as well as affiliate programs, of Googles new ads appearing throughout the internet?
I've just realised that a week or two ago I already saw a Google ad on my site, which must have been pumped there by Burst. Not knowing what it was I was a bit surprised and worried because it had several affiliate rivals and could have drawn punters away from my carefully crafted links.
Is Google going to take over the industry with this method? If the click rates prove higher than elsewhere, as on Google main, I suspect they many be in with a shot.
I don't know if it's coincidence but Burst quite recently shook up their categories and it may well have targetted the specific category and been delivered to all the sites in the category.
I understand your concern, targeting makes it much more likely to offer an ad that competes with your own purposes, doesn't it? From a publisher's standpoint, we never really viewed that as a risk in the old Engage or Burst category buys. (Even less of a risk really, because they were almost always RON.)

I find that I'm generally upbeat about this. I see it as being new blood in the ad campaigns. (I've been making fair money off Overture as an affiliate for a while now, I won't mind adding Google's check to the deposit.)
