We are relatively new to the ecomm business and have been trying to build an awareness of our products. So far we have engaged mostly in wholesaling but now have started retailing our consumer electronics brands.

For the last 3-4 months, we have been trying to contact several websites with relevant content/connection with the intent to buy Ad space, link development etc. Unfortunately, we havent recd. a good enough response from most of the webmasters. We have targetted both large and small sites (on a 1-to-1 basis) but have been able to generate any interest from publishers? What are we doing wrong? Is there a better means of approach these sites?

We already do Adwords, Overture, Pricegrabber, shopzilla etc. But we are looking for some content sites, forum owners for advertising, campaigns etc.

any help will be greatly appreciated. - thanks

Do you have an Affiliate Program in place? That's a sure fire way to get the attention of publishers.

You may be too new. You may need to stick around a while and build up some credibility. I'm in a completely different area but I know that I'm much rather work with established sites than new sites I've never heard of.

Is it something about your website design or something that the publishers doesn't like? Since I'm an ad publisher myself I know that I'm picky about it.

Other than that I can only advice you to keep trying.
