Those that are successful, how did your earnings grow?

Just wondering while reading the other $1000 thread.
Say if you earned your first $1000 in 1 year.
Was it like almost no earnings the first 2 months, than $10-100-$1000 really quickly?
What was the hardest part of it?

Just need some inspiration as I'm having a bad week.

Keep your project goals as your inspiration, not your current or projected earnings. That way an earnings dip makes no difference.

I think it all boils down to traffic. The faster you can grow that traffic the more your $$ will grow.
I know there is a ton of other veriables like the type of traffic, ad position, season etc, but thats is the general rule IMO.

I've been doing web projects as my hobby for over 7 years, never realizing that a living could be made from it. The hardest part for me was switching my mindset last year from "I want to build this for the fun of it" to "I want to build this to make money." Even now I still have to enjoy what I work on, but I try to have a mind for profits now. Last year I was struggling in the few hundreds for awhile until I hit it with a break-out site that netted about $1,500 in one month. I've tried to duplicate that success, with a few flops along the way. Now I'm moving closer to my next goal of $3,000/month. My strategy is slow and steady, no blackhat, build up domains then circle back and add more to those domains.
