Bad placing of link can lead to non-recognition of revenues?

Hi,

After CJ's records failed to show all my clicks convert into revenues, I emailed them and they said it was due to the fact that I had not placed the link correctly on my website!

How is that possible? The banner is on top of my website and loads just fine and goes to the affiliate's site when you click on it. I mean how can you place a link incorrectly when it shows and loads properly?

Is this happening to someone else too and what can one do about it?

Probably because no one bought anything because it's not that easy to make money with affiliate programs or you didn't put your affiliate ID in the link.

Are the clicks themselves being tracked? At the very least there should be test clicks from you which should have been reported.

Also, how many clicks are we talking about? Sales programs typically only convert at a rate of up to a few percent.

Sounds like the tracking code you were given isn't up with your affiliate ID as it does not matter where you put their code.

Thanks for the replies. I simply copy pasted the script from my CJ account related to my affiliate program and pasted that on all the pages on my site. I dont know if I am supposed to do something else beside that.

Mine is a pay-per-lead program and my site averages around 15 to 20 clicks daily but shows only 4-6 leads. Could the rest of the viewers be clicking on the banner ad and then leaving after being asked to fill a registration form? The landing page opens in the same window and the viewer leaves my website and can return only by hitting the back button. I have not chosen the Encrypt link, Hide tracking code and other options.

In fact, CJ mailed me once asking me why there was such a gap between my clicks and leads and I repled saying they should know, not me!

Well, it sure beats me. Is there anything at all I can do to set this right? Or is is just another case of CJ not reporting all leads?

Not everybody who clicks through will fill out the entire form. That's just a fact of life, and the ratio looks about right to me. You might want to read the small print in your agreement to see if there are any restrictions on which users qualify as valid leads.

You can also try opening the link in a new window (if allowed) to make it marginally less likely people will back out before completing the form. If it works, keep it that way. If not, change it back.
