E-bay goes bidding crazy (UK)

I bid on keywords for various items (overture UK), I have noticed E-bay compete on a few items i.e. blue widgets, but yesterday I noticed they have bid 70p for every widget type imaginable. Most of these widgets are not even available on e-bay and some cost less than 70p.

They have jumped the bids up from the 5-10p area up to 70p. I notice some other people, who were previously in first have whacked their auto bids up to 50p. This must be costing e-bay a fortune for a low ROI.

Has anyone else seen e-bay doing the same thing in their area of widgets!?

yes theyve suddenly done the same with the keywords ie use and theyre pretty uncommon terms usually at 5 cents, ebay come in and gone to 70 - ive gone upto 69 :)

I would be very careful, imho they are not "real" bids, I wouldn't get involved in a bidding war.

I think you will find that they are probably automated bids using the new Match Finder.

Is this a sign of things to come? In my opinion, yes.

If you bump your bid up to $.01 below them, then they should be paying the "max bid" cost displayed with the listing.

It may be a UK thing but the stuff I watch exhibits a certain weirdness when ebay are around. Stuff like 50p bids when there are no other bidders, multiple bids for the same term, bids at the minimum which amazingly jump far upwards as soon as one other bidder emergers. This is all pre-auto bidding.

If they are someone at ebay/their ad buyer wants firing, imho.
