Do I have this right?

You bid on keywords.
You bid a small amount on each keyword? (0.05)
You only get charged when someone clicks on that keyword to go to your site.

Is that the way it works?

I won't get charged for the other keywords I picked that noone has clicked on, right?

New to this PPC thing and trying to learn as I go.
Thanks!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld newtothis

That is essentially correct
You actually have to submit the keyword to overture with a title and description and they will ok it if it is relevant to your site. You then can bid a minimum of 0.05 and you pay the bid amount every time, and only when, someone clicks on your link.

<added>If you look through this forum or use the site search in the upper left corner of the screen you can find out a lot about PPC methodologies etc. Also take a look at paynt's welcome post [webmasterworld.com], it is a very good starting place.
