This can be controlled by specifying that your ad appear for exact matches only. Another approach is to leave the wild-card matching open but specify that your ad is not to appear if certain words appear in the search.
I would find it useful food for thought to see what kinds of search terms others have found worth blocking. Anyone want to share?
I'll go first. When I set up a new AdWords campaign, I always block the following, reasoning that searches including these words are unlikely to generate quality traffic (quality for my purposes, that is):
free
freebie
sample
samples
picture
pictures
photo
photos
clipart
clip art
image
images
lawsuit
lawsuits
broken
repair
repairs
screensaver
screensavers
screen saver
screen savers
Anyone else?
