>>participate in what?<<

Sorry Mike, I thought they steered clear of "adult" stuff. I just went back and read their FAQ; My mistake.

The editors review it BEFORE the ad runs at Overture.

adult sites may not bid on non-adult search terms

Not sure what that means BUT I think it may be words like "teen"

Anyone go to the Overture meeting in Boston today? I hear there was some talk along the lines of the above.

Lots of talk about relevance, but I didn't hear anything explicitly about the adult industry. Some of those companies would bid on anything from Javascript to Mother Teresa if they were allowed to.

About the relevance issue, it's still a hot topic within the ranks at Overture. Some Overture staffers there felt that things may be screwed down too tight right now. I'm sure the new stricter relevancy rules are costing them overhead with all the extra editing cycles as well. In many cases, the editors need to be educated about a particular industry to make good decisions.

Overture has to do quite a dance. Their network (especially the big boys) wants the tightest relevance they can get, particularly on the top 3 or 5 bids. That may be a bit hypocritical considering the SERPs which may follow in some cases, but still it's a business reality.

Advertisers, on the other hand, would love to bid on very broad terms and then use their Title and Description to pre-qualify the click. So it is a balancing act, and several people there admitted that they haven't found the sweet spot.

If overture is having an issue with the "adult" stuff, it is probably internal.

Most printing companies just won't do porn for one reason; employee morale tanks.

I wonder how much of the stuff the editors inadvertently bump into everyday. :(

Yep, I worked for a printing company in the 70's that tried a porn rag, and all of us looked at the material and said, "do we really want or need to publish this cr_p"
We finished that issue but that was the last one.
Now back then 100% of the employees were male.

Who really feels good about a job that causes anyone to be exploited. Those who do . . . well this is not the place
