evolutionary,

Yahoo is not a PPC Engine, it's a Directory that charges for listings (currently $300 annually).

$300, a lot of hard work and many hours of info from WMW :)

We are all glad to help, just ask some specific questions. The more sspecific, the more we can help.

I'd like to add to this question. Yahoo doesn't even list my company's web site if I search by my own Company Name or by my URL! I've never paid for directory submission... Is that why? I now use Overture for keywords and am considering using it for my company name, but that really annoys me -- it should just come up on a search, as far as I'm concerned.

Hello,
Listing on Yahoo. Seems to be the directory that everyone wants to be seen on. Could be wrong about this but it sems to me that if you rank well on Google then Yahoo have you in their searches as well. My first attempt had my site listed on Yahoo, first page, "webpage matches", and number one on some searches depending on the keywords entered.
It took quite a while to get the title, description and keywords as good as I knew how at the time. This was around 10 weeks ago.

Yahoo uses Espotting for its "sponsored" listings. (espotting are a rival to overture who operate pay for clicks).

>>it sems to me that if you rank well on Google then Yahoo have you in their searches as well

Yahoo uses the google database for searches it can not supply or does not already know about in its own directory. Primarily its the other way round. Get listed on Yahoo then your Google ranking will increase.

The only real way to get listed on Yahoo if you dont use espottings pay per click is to pay the submission fee of $299 "per year".

Yahoo is a good traffic provider but it depends on your listing. Read the terms carefully and make sure your site is compatible in netscape as well as IE before submitting. Have a look at the yahoo section on this site for topics in submitting to yahoo!!

Hope this helps.

The top three listings at Y! under "Sponser Matches" are indeed from Overture (PPC engine), as to how to rate high, you'll find some useful info HERE [webmasterworld.com]
