GoTo UK pricing

Having requested details of the UK launch, I was told that when bidding starts on October 1st the minimum bid will be 5 pence.

This seems damn expensive compared to the minimum bid of 1 cent on the .com version - at today's rates it is 7 times the price.

Seems a little unfair on us UK guys if you ask me.

>Insane bidding at the top!

With the right title & description, there should be no reason to bid more than 5 at this time - imho

>US .coms out bidding us little guys!
Well, you can see it happening - can't you?
On a 2 word phrase at the bottom of your list of KWs, you are battling it out with a .com while I sit at #8.
I have over 30 days left in my account.
#1 will get more hits [ I think - UK stats may be different from US] but I am going to rely on my title and description to get traffic.
If you click on my bid at £0.07, I'll get on an airplane and KILL you. :)

Well, it is good - so I was tempted - then...

>If you click on my bid at £0.07, I'll get on an airplane and KILL you.

I typed in the URL instead!;)

>It takes about 24 hours to get your terms in and new clients love it! You can get them top rankings in Freeserve within 72 hours and it takes the pressure of you while waiting for directories, google, inktomi et al!

I think makemetop sums it up quite nicely with that sentence.

It may be an idea to go back thru your referral logs and look at the terms that people have searched on in other engines to give you some ideas of what terms to use - I found some unusual combinations that I hadn't thought of this way. These could turn out to be so obscure that they never get a hit - but then again, no click thru - no cost to you.

As Mike says - try to get a good title and description that fits the search term. You don't want to attract people to click onto your site unless it is definitely of interest to them.

Hmm, just received my credit card bill which contains the first payment to "GOTO E Marketplace" and it's bad news for all us small guys. £25 turned into £29.37 after the dreaded VAT was added.

So the 5p minimum click turns out to be 5.875p once the 17.5% tax is added.

terry.

I noticed that as well, I do feel it's a little unfair to promote the fee without the dreaded VAT on, as I'm sure most SEO/individuals are not VAT registerd and the one's that are aren't going to worry about paying a bit of VAT if their turnover is 50k plus!

Where on the goto.com or uk.goto.com site does it state that there is a VAT tax ???

I'm not a legal expert but I think that you must disclose taxes and any other fees. [In the USA]

anyone?

Mike.

without going through the whole process again to double check it, I'm pretty sure that it comes up on the page you print off as a receipt.

Don't hold me to it though, but they do not make it clear until you've gone through the whole process of keyword bids/address for billing /credit card details and only after you agree the fee comes up with the VAT on :(

I must say that after being charged $25 by the .com and having $25 credited to my account it came as a bit of a shock to find my UK account had been credited with £25 but I had been charged £29.37.

Along with the high minimum bid it adds to the feeling of being "ripped off". Still lets hope it brings in the same targetted traffic that it's considerably cheaper counterpart in the USA does.

Here [uk.goto.com], just above the "Sign up now" submit button, Goto's version of hidden text. <g>

Can you claim it back? Just what you want to be reading after a hard weeks work [hmce.gov.uk]

tigger,

I initially enquired by email and asked for my USA search terms to be transferred over to the new UK Service. This was followed up by a telephone call from one of their representatives who arranged the set up.

Good service - but he didn't mention the VAT. I subsequently received an email asking me to confirm the transaction and again, no mention of VAT.

It's probably included somewhere in their T&C's though.

Thanks - I thought it would be somewhere. I guess I missed it because I signed up over the telephone.

In that case - no point in complaining ;)

I escaped the dreaded Vat because I am in Canada. We pay our fair share of taxes here also so I know how you guys in the UK feel. Lets all hope we get only targeted traffic and lots of sales. I still believe that Goto UK will have to drop their minimum if things dont pick up soon, just like when they waived the 10 Pound setup fee.

Go get a VAT number UK People.... It is always worth it.

For people outside the UK, most publicly advertised prices in Europe include VAT. For you people outside the EU, you will win - over us, any quoted price from an EU operation MUST be considered to be VAT inclusive - so £50 = £42.55 if you are an EU resident with a business in the UK.

Hey-ho! The Brits are the losers - yet again..... (unless you have a VAT number)....

My 50 search terms at Goto U.S. just went live and I am all jazzed up. Will be slowly adding more and more obscure looking for the perfect combo. I am surpised at some the terms I got for 1 cent each. All mine are one cent and the $50 should last a few months. The 50pounds in the UK wouldnt last as long and I will get around 1000 hits as 99% are 5p and one 8p.With one sale I am laughing and at the present I am doing about 10 per thousand. As long as competitors dont try to burn out my account then I will be ok. The good thing is it seems Goto UK is on the lookout for abusive clicking as shown by Terry in one of the previous posts. At present there is no competition and I am loving it. Been almost 24 hours since I signed in the UK so hopefully it will be live soon so I can get the weekend traffic.Best of luck to everybody and time to go and work out some good terms for Goto U.S.
