Recently I have been getting alot of GoTo referals from apps5.oingo.com.

The amount of hits seems odd.

Has anyone else seen this.

I will be contacting GoTo about this, but would like to find out if anyone else is seeing this.

We have all, over time, seen many GoTo referrals.
You check out the company and there is almost nothing on their site about them.

This is different - imho

I've sent Email to appliedsemantics.com and asked them to comment in this thread.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. Applied Semantics (formerly Oingo) has partnered with GoTo to host traffic for some of GoTo's channel partners. We are focused on driving very high quality end users to GoTo's advertiser sites. As our partnership progresses, you will continue to see users being redirected from our servers at apps5.oingo.com.

I hope this answers your questions. Please contact me at eytan@appliedsemantics.com if you hae any further questions.

Regards,

Eytan Elbaz
Director of Business Development
Applied Semantics, Inc.

Welcome to WmW, EytanElbaz. I am a little slow on the uptake, so can you clarify this for me, please?

Is this correct?

Applied Semantics is to GoTo as Position Tech is to Inktomi?

Great work Mike!!

Question for EytanElbaz.
Who are GoTo's channel partners that you are hosting?

You remember the Oingo Whois - Domain Sense [namingsolutions.com]? That's a killer product. I wish it was still free. Even the places that have it leased, now have it behind secured walls. :(

As it happens, I received a lone referral from oingo 2 days ago on a non-GoTo term. But, in checking it out, I saw "Results by AltaVista" in the lower right-hand corner, so I didn't catch the GoTo connection.

<added>
Correction: Just checked, it says "Web Hit results provided by Alta Vista"

On the lighter side, an Oingo search on my name [search.oingo.com] (in the left-hand column under "Open Directory Text Hits") gives 3 entries. Each references an ODP pw-protected forum thread:

>For the love of laisha. ;-)
Professional insectides, pesticides, dusts, baits, sprays, traps, and rodenticides.

>Laisha, PLEASE!
Professional insectides, pesticides, dusts, baits, sprays, traps, and rodenticides.

>Welcome laisha!
Professional insectides, pesticides, dusts, baits, sprays, traps, and rodenticides.

I believe I am insulted...or should be. :) I have sent feedback to Oingo, but so far no response.

The Applied Semantics partner that is showing as referals is digimedia. If it is www.digimedia.com, their sites are locate.com, teenchat.com, philippines.com and iceland.com.

They have been my top GoTo referer in the last three days.

Waiting on GoTo to answer my e-mail on the topic

It seems that the Open Directory Text Hits lists old listings; they should update the ODP directory sites.
