I asked the following questions of GOTO and got a less than helpful answer so I thought I would ask folks with the same priorities as me!

Summary

1 month, 23 key words/phrases,Search Volume 49,217, click throughs 2515, sales 90. Value of sales $2097, profitability on sale 61%. Top 2/3 positions all throught the month.

So I now know I got 5.1 % of availably seaches, 3.6% of clicks went on to a sale, Average cost per click 25c, 29 clicks per sale, cost per sale $6.9, profit per sale $14.91. etc

So far so good. Earnings greater than costs etc but how are my averages? This is something GOTO don't seem to want to talk about. Will anyone share any similar figures?

What I really want to know is:

Is 5.1% good?, is my description weak hence too few people are clicking through to my site?

Is 3.1% conversion of click throughs to sale OK or weak? In which case look at the copy omn the site again.

I feel these are the nitty gritty of analysing the site data but am I asking too much for others to share these figures? If I am, sorry, no offense meant, if not , how am I doing?

PS I wish I had found this forum years ago!

Welcome John :)

All our Head Lice webmasters are currently on vacation. ;)

Figures are diffficult to come by because it is an Apples & Oranges thing from industry to industry and site to site.

My rule of thumb is to at least double my money through PPC / PFP

You can tweak your title and description to test results.
You can also tweak your site to improve the conversion rate as well.

Thanks for the opener Mike, I think I got back about 76% on the first part month and a little higher in the full month. Challeng now is to spend more at that same level of return!
