GoTo on Netscape is pushing the traffic

I have a client who decided to bid their GoTo standings up to second position, to see what kind of traffic the Netscape tie-in might produce.

Immediate result -- Netscape referrals are tying Google, where the same page has number 7 and 8. Never saw so much traffic from good old Netscape. The way they are featuring the GoTo results at the top of the page is really bringing home the clicks.

The nice thing is that Netscape picks up the GoTo results in real time, so there's no waiting for an update. The minute GoTo updates, that's what Netscape uses.

To backup my earlier post -- the traffic from Netscape's top 2 GoTo sites continues very strong for my client. Part of this is due to the beautiful job Netscape did highlighting the results - and the fact that for some reason, the competition I'm dealing with has very anaemic descriptions.

On 800x600, the actual SERPs on Netscape now begin below the fold -- you can't even see number one without scrolling, because the GoTo results are at the top, then categories, and finally the actual search results, where my client also is in the number 6 position. But until the GoTo results were added, the Netscape traffic was a yawner.

Tedster, do you think this could be the boost goto needed to take it big time?

Something has happened to Netscape that's caused an uptick beyond GoTo. I'm now getting google.netscape (Gooscape? Netgoo? -these combo acronyms are killing me.). Not many, but steady.

Well, it's early in the game, but something very good is happening here. I certainly dig the traffic.

One thing is for sure, with the Netscape, AOL and NBCi partnerships, GoTo is going to have a pretty wide reach. Whether the public will support paid listings over the long haul has yet to be seen. My guess is they will, as long as GoTo and their partners don't get lazy.

What makes the Netscape partnership work is the prominence and attractiveness of the listing. Those intelligently written descriptions are very refreshing.

Gooscape? That brings an interesting picture to mind. Really hard to walk in though.

Is the traffic up tick really what you want though? I always felt if you were getting alot of traffic from goto on your bid keywords, then I didn't choose very good keywords. To me, Goto is all about laser targeted traffic for a specific purpose.
