First time poster here with a unique situation that maybe someone with more experience can help me with.
I have a YSM account with over 8k inside of it. I don't really promote anything currently so I'm not sure what to do with it actually.
I can get a check from them since I have a dedicated account rep and am classified as a High Value Gold Account but they say it will take between 2-3 months just to issue the check.
I was thinking there has to be a better way to either get this 8k or maybe even turn it into a larger number and receive a payout sooner than 3 months.
I'm experienced with online marketing, I was the inventor of music videos on MySpace back years ago before MySpace started doing their own thing and I made almost a million dollars via viral marketing so I do have "some" experience in the field. I'm also employed full time as a contracted seo/sem guy for a local consulting firm so I try to stay up to date with current news in the se world.
So I joined Commission Junction and applied for a few companies like printer supplies and stuff like that, anything that showed the highest network rankings and highest ROI, they show results like $250 revenue per 100 clicks average, so ""if"" I could spend $1cpc and make $250 average per 100 clicks thats a 250% increase in my investment or almost 20k in return. I'm aware that it isn't just that easy to do but it was a thought I had. Only downfall is that they have heavy ppc guidelines to follow so I'd have to be super careful in how I run PPC campaigns for them.
So what do you think? Should I just wait 90 days to get a check from YSM for 8k or should I do some affiliate marketing with the hopes of making even more than 8k and in less than 90 days?
I'm really eager to read any replies! Thanks in advance guys and gals!
the epc figure you referred to, revenue of $250 per 100 clicks... run 100 clicks at $1 cpc and see what your own EPC is... this way, you only blow $100 to learn what i already know...
Isn't there a good affiliate program out there where I could spend that 8k and maybe make 10k+ in return in like 2 months?
I'm sure there is, but I would not expect a direct answer to that. Why would I or anyone else tell you the deep secrets to my/our success? It would flood the market and I would lose out. Do some research and see who is paying good commissions. What are some products/industries that you know a lot about?

The only way to do it is to test for yourself. It sounds like you are looking for a quick fix to get your 8k back.
For you to learn what you need to now to realistically turn that 8k into 20k would probably take more than 2-3 months unless you were extremely lucky. I say get the check and go for it.
It does not sound to me like you have the patience to actually do what it will take to use that money successfully which likely means in a few weeks to a month you will have CJ send you like 1500 and that will be that.
You are of the ignorant believe that Affiliate Marketing is somehow easy or an easy way to turn cash into more money. If it were so easy don't you think even more people would be doing it? It takes a lot of work and most people who try to do it fail.
People with experience could put your money to good use, although I honestly don't know of many good affiliate marketers who have cash flow issues, so probably not. The reality is it can be hard to find enough to do with the money they already have, so more money is of little use.
Again, just get the check and put it towards something you are experienced with... If you really do want to learn affiliate marketing, have them send you a check for 7500 and keep the other 500 to play with... Do as Rhino said and set up a test for $100.00 to start with...
One thing you have to understand about the affiliate business is it is a really boon for the companies doing it. They have little to no risk and pay out, for the most part when they get revenue in or an expectation of revenue. Many affiliate programs can be amazingly difficult to find and match up an audience with that can convert. As MadeWillis said, nobody who has actually invested the time and money to find those out is going to share it with you. It is worth a lot more to them. You will find some shills pushing offers or categories, but these are almost always after something has peaked and they have moved on. So you are not going to get any hot leads.
I have run on long enough.
It sounds like you really don't need the money so why not experiment a bit. Making money as an affiliate is not all that easy, but spend a $100 or two and see what happens. The experience alone might be worth the money.
I'm sure many webmasters here have their share of good and bad stories. I spent $5K to make $7K only to have the program fold up business. That $12K loss was the best thing that ever happened to me.
