Tracking YSM with Google Analytics

Do you have to tag links manually or is there an alternative?

I would like to see my YSM data in Google Analytics along with my Adwords and other campaign information.

From what I've read it seems that the only way to do this is to add Google campaign tracking links to every ad in YSM, which would be quite laborious.

Or I found this link on the Analytics help site [google.com ] which suggests that you can map alternative variables to the equivalent Google ones (I don't know whether this causes any harm to the normal adwords/campaign tracking?)

However, as these are the YSM tracking variables, it looks like there are none that identify the source as Yahoo, the medium as ppc or the campaign etc:

OVKEY - the keywords you purchased on
OVMTC - the match type
OVKWID- keyword ID
OVRAW - actual search query
OVADID- creative ID

It appears that the only ones which could be utilised in this way are OVKEY or OVRAW. So it looks like we're back to manually tagging all the links.

Has anyone else addressed this issue and managed to find another way of doing this, or did you manually tag the links?

This is the best way to do it:

?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc%20&utm_term={OVKEY}&utm_content={OVADID}&utm_campaign={OVCAMPGID}

Paste that on your display URL after example www.example.com?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc%20&utm_term={OVKEY}&utm_content={OVADID}&utm_campaign={OVCAMPGID}

In your YSM account make sure you have enabled unique URL's in account settings.

That is best way to track YSM via GA. Good luck..

Thanks for the reply. Having done some reading on this topic, I think you're right. I presume the %20 is a typo though? And it should be

www.example.com?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term={OVKEY}&utm_content={OVADID}&utm_campaign={OVCAMPGID}

You are absolutely correct, I am sorry for the typo... this is my URL exactly and has been working great for me:

http://www.example.com/russian-lacquer-box-kritov.aspx?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc%20&utm_term={OVKEY}&utm_content={OVADID}&utm_campaign={OVCAMPGID}

I have no more traffic discrepancy between GA and YSM they match up 100%. This information under GA in campaigns for YSM is still not as good as for Adwwords, but I think it is better than barely any data w/ a huge discrepancy.

Let me know if you need any other help with it.

I've been having an issue that's hurting my head lately and was wondering if anyone on here had any input.

I'm running a paid campaign through Yahoo Search Marketing, and I have Tracking URLs switched off.

In Google Analytics, when I look at my landing page URLs for non-paid traffic, I'm seeing a lot of clicks to URLs containing OVKEY, OVRAW, OVKWID and the other parameters that Yahoo! Tracking URLs adds on.

(I use Google's URL Builder tool on the raw URL, and the resultant URL gets encoded again using another 3rd party tool. When I look at my landing page URLs for paid traffic in Analytics, it alls looks fine and all contain the necessary parameters from the aforementioned 3rd party tool)

Why am I seeing these URLs with OVKEY, OVRAW etc in my non-paid reports in Analytics?
