Thought I'd share with you my Yahoo nightmare story.
I'm relatively new to PPC, so few weeks ago I opened my first
ppc account with Google Adwords and at the same time a ppc acount with Microsoft Adcenter.
I then joined Amazon Associates program, so that I can sell Amazon products on PPC engines.
Things were going ok, I started to get impressions and clicks on both adwords and adcenter. I'm running identical set of ads on both adwords and adcenter to see which ppc will be more profitable for me.
Couple of days ago I decided to open new PPC account this time
with Yahoo Sponsored Search.... big mistake!
First of all unlike adwords/adcenters 5$ account activation fee I was charged 30$ right away, not a big deal, but still annoying.
So I created my first campaign with YSM which is identical to adwords/adcenter campaign I already set up. It is a simple campaign
for one of Amazons products.
A day after the campaign started I checked the stats in YSM and decided to pause that campaign until I figure out how to improve its settings.
Things look fine at this point... Then a day after my YSM campaign was paused, I get an email from YSM, telling me that the campaign I have
already paused was suspended due to TOS violation.
I was really surprised to hear this, since the same campaign has been running on adwords and adcenter w/o any problems for some time now.
So I goto YSM user login interface, try to login, and get an error message saying that "An error occurred during login because you have not been granted access to any accounts."
Not good, so I try to get in touch with someone at YSM to find out whats going on
1) I try to find a "contact us" form/link. After some digging I finally find it. The problem is its only available to users who have already logged in, since I cant log in, I cant use that form.
2) I find an email where support for YSM can be reached. I send out an email, 48 hours later. No response. Even though the subject of my email was prefixed with "URGENT"
3) I try calling YSM. First time I call them I stay on hold for 38 minutes, finally my patience runs out I hang up. I call back later, second time I get lucky, the hold time is only few minutes and I finally get to speak to someone.
The customer representative after getting my account info quickly transfers me to his supervisor.
Supervisor informs me that my account has been suspended because the campaign I created violated YSM TOS. I ask her to clarify which part of TOS was violated. She tells me that the problem is the destination URL of my campaign. She tells me that the website specified in my destination ULR is DOWN and not working. I ask her to tell me what was the website specified in my destination URL. She quickly tells me "AMAZON.COM". I'm shocked.... I ask her "Are you telling me that AMAZON.COM is down?" She takes a pause... she then tells me, that she will investigate this further and she will have to call me back later.
24 hours later, my account is still suspended, nobody called me back from YSM, I'm on hold right now for over 1 hour trying to reach someone again at YSM.
This is really really bad, I did not expect this kind of customer service from Yahoo. Also suspending my entire account due to invalid destination URL in my campaign is just plain stupid.
YSM Supervisor informing me that MY domain Amazon.com is down is.... unbelievable.
e.g. My destination URL looks like this
Thus since obviously I cannot fit the entire destination URL into ads display URL, my display URL is set to shorter version of my destination URL or simply to "www.amazon.com"
I did not violate any TOS, I know that for a fact. When yesterday I did finally get through to YSM customer service. It was confirmed that indeed there was nothing wrong with my ad and that the mistake was on YSM side.
