I am curious about one of the Pay per Click search engines: www.searchcactus.com

Do you have any experience?

Thank for a reply.

Hi Angiolo,

My experience with SearchCactus is that if you are interested good conversion rates, don't bother.

If you are interested in using it for branding or something similar then it may be OK.

I personally receive a reasonable amount of traffic from SearchCactus but, because there is incentive to click by the way of payment.

There are quite a few much better choices if you are after quality traffic.

I hope that helps.

I never ran into them before. I was interested in this statement:

"we supply all advertisers with real-time average demographic information of the users visiting their sites. Advertisers may view the average age, gender, income, occupation, hobbies and more!"

The only way they can do this is the "pay to surf" system they have in place, where they collect information from members.

I wonder how good the traffic they send you can be. They can't supply that kind of info on every search, only on member searches, so the statement is a bit misleading. And I don't like the idea of paying for traffic that is only clicking my link to make money for themsleves.

I was also disturbed to see that the same advertiser is allowed to bid on more than one position.

I have used searchcactus quite a bit. Here's what I can tell you:

1. Their demographic tracking is great.
2. They have a decent volume of traffic.
3. The quality of the traffic is pretty poor, but not horrible. We had about 4% conversion, which is below our threshold (so we're not working with them any more), but I know a lot of people who would be happy with 4% conversion at $0.01 bids.
4. Their online account editing sucks (of course, most do).
