How Much Traffic Will YSM Lose from Loss of MSN Network?

Now that MSN is slowing moving away from Yahoo, can anyone provide details on how much Yahoo traffic was from the old MSN relationship?

Let's just say, that with MSN gone now (at least already in my industry) Yahoo is pretty much a worthless fraud-filled program. I don't really spend any money with Yahoo anymore.

This has already started, their traffic is now 80% partner driven and is absolute junk.

I see on the Yahoo Sponsored Search page, that Yahoo's search is displayed on Alta Vista, Lycos, MSN UK, and Wanadoo. So MSN-UK accounts for the only quality traffic from Yahoo? Can anyone verify that the only quality traffic from Yahoo is the MSN traffic?

While we’re on the subject, what are your thoughts about Miva and Mirgo?

There's a Miva thread at [webmasterworld.com...] . The general consensus is that their traffic is poor.

Thanks for you input. The thread that you mentioned bags on the Miva US but one of the posts does indicate that the Miva UK seems to be OK.

The bottom line is when it was announced that MSN was leaving the Yahoo/Overture family; I've had the desire to research all the clicks that we pay for. We have PPC budgets for both the US and UK markets, and I've (I hate to admit this) never really done any comprehensive search engine analysis. 90% of our PPC budget is spent with Google and Overture, but now that MSN is branching off; I want to understand the Overture traffic.

overture/yahoo (US) is over. mind u when u run ur ads, u still get loads of hits, i.e. busy paying bills. so we just paused all ads for a few days and surprise suprise, no change in our revenues.

amazing... overture US (goto) invented the PPC game.

overture/yahoo UK/DE is still ok though.

So in the US, the consensus is to go with Google, and MSN? Who handles the AOL search?

We still get good traffic and ROI from Yahoo. We have seen more traffic from new, smaller partners but the conversion are about the same. The only negative that we see is an increase in clicks without valid referrers being shown. However, the percentage of these is fairly small.

hfactor, good point. looking at the short description they seem to be google ads. no 1 in google matches the no 1 spot in aol, subsequent rankings seem to be sorted somewhat different.

My previous firm manages 4-5% of all of paid search for its client base, and Yahoo ROI is still very much acceptable for the 4-5% of the market we manage.

While ROI on Yahoo Search has gotten worse over time, calling it 'worthless' is overkill in my opinion.

We're still generating revenue, but I've had to severely restrict our advertising to stay under the radar of the spamming crap MFA sites.
