For some time now our referrals from Yahoo/Overture have been decreasing in quality and i was having a think about it the reasons why.

I know they are always expanding their network of partner sites and i wonder have the restrictions been relaxed to allow nearly anyone to become a partner, to display pages with overture's sponsored listings.

In other words, spam other SE's with Yahoo listings.

Could they be doing this as they are so worried about the loss of business when MSN launches so they are trying to get as much in as they can, while they can.

This is one of the only reasons i can see whay the quality could get so bad over a period of time like this. I know they have to change when they lose MSN, but do they also want to lose ALL their advertisers as well.

This makes no sense at all. We have quite a lot of clients advertising on various different PPC platforms, but we have started discussing these problems with them and have decreased a lot of our Yahoo/Overture budgets and moved them accross to other networks.

When MSN launches in the UK, we are virtually going to stop most of our accounts with them unless the quality picks up.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yahoo is headed toward FindWhat-Miva status. The only question is how long it will take. My guess is 4-5 months; I moved 80% of my clients money out of Yahoo early January.

So you don't think there's much hope for Y!Search, then? I'm not so sure. They're definitely getting smaller in terms of volume of ROI, but there *is* ROI for most advertisers who buy their ppc, it's just a question of scale.

shorebreak,

You yourself acknowledge that you're seeing smalled ROI on Yahoo, just wait until MSN is no longer a distribution partner. I'm not saying you can't still make some money and sales from Yahoo, I'm just saying the program is on the decline. In my industry it's a rapid decline, other industries may be seeing a slower addition of questionable distribution partners.

The thread question asks if Yahoo is trying to get as much money from advertisers before MSN leaves. My opinion is yes; the results of my clients' in the last month as awful compared what they have averaged month over month for the last 3 years. And no it's not because there is new competition; quite frankly there is less competition because a lot of other educated advertisers have started to pull out of Yahoo as I have.
