I am new to Yahoo. Does this happen often?
And does advertising go on?

Kind regards,

HB

Advertising still goes on, but if you can't login to their systems you can't change bids or get any data from yesterday's activities.

And YES...it happens all the time. So be prepared to be frustrated weekly if not daily with Yahoo.

Overture was providing the best service of any vendor in the industry, with minimal tech difficulties for quite a long time but it sure has taken a big turn for the worse lately. UGH.

The DTC has been very flaky today. I am in at the moment but the system is just hanging. I can't change to the next page on the manage bids section. And now the 'time out' window has just popped up but it can't even display the text as it is so slow!

Overture use to have pretty good uptime, the last month however, it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Overture hasn't been good since July 2003. The last 2 months have been exceptionally bad, but c'mon it's been pretty bad again since July 2003.

OK folks, let me tell you Google Adwords doesn't have much of this technical chaos. However, their bidding system feels like a criminal offense to me. That's why I fled to Yahoo.

Yes 'best' and Yahoo are 2 words that should never appear in the same sentence.

I guess our experiences didn't match that of others on here, but we had great service from Overture and great reps for a long time.

I think Overture has great customer support, and outside of the tech issues over the past month, really haven't had that many issues over the past few years.

I know plenty of people who prefer the OV interface to G for a large variety of reasons.

What are those reasons eWhisper?

I can't think of any...

At least with Yahoo you can bid by position; that's the biggest advantage for me to spend more money with Yahoo than Google. You just can't be as stratgeic with Google. And the fact that Google's text ad text length is so short is a real issue with me.

While I enjoy the longer number of characters to play with on Yahoo, since everyone gets them, I am not sure they are any more effective than than the short number at Google.

Before I post the huge list, I do have to say I like adwords as well. It's not that I like one over the other, it's that they're different.

Although, here's a list of why many people prefer Overture (it's not comprehensive, just what I can think of in a few minutes)

1. Advanced match is much more predictable than expanded broad match.
2. You can see your position.
3. You can bid to position.
4. You know what you're paying per click (no odd formula you have to reverse engineer).
5. You can see average bids for keywords.
6. Keyword suggestion tool has counts.
7. Bid tool shows what everyone is bidding.
8. Your account is off or on - if your bids are highlighted in bold, then your account is currently online.
9. The 'easy track' feature makes it easy for a tracking system to grab variables.
10. The API doesn't have a query limit.
11. It's very easy to reorganize an account.
12. Separate bids for content vs search.
13. The ability to use a separate title/description for every keyword (especially when you're in the 10k range) - try making an adwords account with 10k adgroups.
14. Reps usually answer the phone.
15. Reps often call back within an hour (and often minutes) if they were on the phone when you called.
16. Multiple reps (many agencies work with a 'team' so if one rep is busy, you have a team leader, backup reps, and horizontal members).
17. I can get someone on the phone in minutes for API support.
18. Overture will give click and billing estimate proposals for new clients.
19. 'Bounties' or 'Affiliate bonuses' for opening new accounts.
20. Have local PPC distribution which doesn't require a website.
