Seeing Overture Rankings in WebPosition report, can't figure out why.

I am seeing Top 30 rankings for Overture in the WebPosition report, but I don't participate in Overture's pay per click program nor have I ever submitted a feed to them.

Can anyone help me understand why I am seeing Top 30 Rankings in Overture?

Thanks for your help.

p.s. I'm not complaining about the Top 30 rakings, I do like them, I just want to understand why I am seeing results without participating in the pay per click programs.

Hi

Overture lacks coverage in large areas of the market, it uses its own index for backfill to placate advertisers when its own inventory isn't sufficent.

Take the free clicks , I do. :)

Dregs33, thanks for the response. So, then Overture maintains an index by crawling the web (like other search engines), and supplements their paid results with this index? Is that right?

Thanks again for your help.

The back fill index is so old and irrelevant that if you have a site there it is luck more than good planning.

I would have thought by now they would have used the Yahoo results however keeping in mind that they wouldn't want potential advertisers to show up it's understandable.
