Overture heads toward automation [news.com.com]

Currently, I only spend a tenth of the money (and get a tenth the traffic and sales) at Overture than I do at Google because Overture's keyword match system is so deficient. With "advanced" match, there's a good chance they'll finally fix this.

My fingers are crossed that they won't screw this up by high "advanced" match bids below low "exact" match bids like they currently do with "broad" and "phrase" match.

Heads up folks if you are using match options - according to the overture email the changes are happening in a couple of weeks.

I have never been a big fan of broad match - I think it's terrible. That being said, I like the option that you can either select broad match or exact match.

Will exact match still come before broad match, or does broad match come first with this change? I understand the "phrase" and "broad" match as we know it today will go away.

Overture would really be shooting themselves in the foot if they continue to put "exact" before this new "advanced" match. If any "advanced" bid can be trumped by "exact", "exact" hardly saves an effort.

Insight - for relevent searches, exact should come first, or at least give some weight to it like google does. It's going to be interesting - broad match does not work for many search areas.

In my opinion, overture should still put exact match first, then broad match. Not sure if this will be the way anymore, looks like starting 10/2.

Good luck to all - jd

I just called an overture rep to confirm - it looks like exact match will still come first, as it should. Then a advance match (broad match) listing. At least the terms will remain relevant, which is unlike google. Kudos Overture.

Advanced match will be introduced next weekend while DTC is offline for a record 45 hours.

We're simplifying our match type options by combining the current Phrase and Broad match types into one match type called Advanced.
The Advanced match type, a feature of Overture's Precision MatchT product, provides search users with relevant listings even when the bidded keyword does not match word-for-word with the search query. The Advanced match type allows you to target additional customers while still using your existing listings, saving you both time and effort.
