Overture Europe

Should I use ads in English or in native European Languages

I am thinking of promoting our business in Europe. We already get many European orders but no where near from those of English speaking countries.

Overture is offering a free fast track at the moment where they will draw up a list of search terms in the native language of that country. I am wondering whether this is a good idea or not if our web site is in English and that the products are priced in US$ only. Also, we would not be able to provide support in European languages. I wonder whether we would be throwing money down the drain through wasted clicks.

Have you tried Google adwords in Europe 1st, I always try Google for a dip in the ocean to see whether it works.

Certainly worked for me in the past, so may be a good route for rapid deployment before spending time and $$$ with Overture.

Worked for us really well with the same criteria as yourself.

Hi Shak,

I have turned off Google ads at the moment for non-English speaking countries but may turn it on again.

The offer of a free fast track from Overture will only last a few more days and so I have to make a decision now.

In general, I wonder whether it would be better or not if the ads were in the native European language. I am worried about waster clicks if the surfer finds that the site is in English and the prices are not in Euros.

>> if the surfer finds that the site is in English

It's true that some parts of the European region don't have a very large proportion of English speaking residents. Those that don't speak English, however, are not likely to click your ad in the first place (assuming the ad is written in English).

I wouldn't worry too much about that particular fact. Europeans are a diverse group and it's only recently that we started using Euro as common currency; some European countries (including my own) don't even do that yet. Europeans are pretty familliar with the concept of exchange rates ;)

Thanks Claus, are you recommending that the ads be in English then?
