I'm pretty confused with this Overture stuff.

Could anyone please explain to me what's the true story?

Overture own's Fast, I found out it also own's AltaVista , (It says (c) overture services at the bottom) But, When I go to Overture.com and search, it gives me Inktomi results, Why is that? Aren't they supposed to be like alternates? And anyway, Overture own's fast which has a 3 billion page Index, Why does it wan't Inkomi results when it has its own services?

Overture is delivering Inktomi results for a very long time, especially compared to the period since they bought FAST and Altavista. So I think this has to do with the time it takes to switch from one engine to another.

But there is another reason: Overture was recently bought by Yahoo, which is the owner of Inktomi since last christmas.

Yahoo is the mother which owns Inktomi and Overture, which again owns Altavista and FAST. So it's all family.
