July inventory from Overture has arrived.

I would do my usual links to all the various inventory tools etc etc, but its just way to hot to do anything at the moment,

so go enjoy...

I'm seeing numbers that are way off from previous month's. I'm talking WAY off . . . like one tenth. Probably just a blip...

Anyone else notice this?

Yep I see minimal figures.

The figures shown by OT's term suggestion tool don't agree with the client activity reports I got for July.

The OT tool is only showing a tenth of the activity given by my reports in some cases (which backs up Eric_Winter's observations). Something tells me that this is a technical issue.

I rang OT UK and discussed this with one of their reps briefly. He didn't know of any technical issues, but says that he will let his manager know about the big discrepancies this month.

I did suggest that one of their people should drop in here and leave us some feedback when they have looked at the problem :)

Anybody else care to comment on their findings?

Wow. I'm seeing a 50% drop from last months keywords. I copy/paste them for my records-

OTHOH:
In July I received 18% CTR on a certain keyword phrase- I received hundreds and hundreds of click throughs- yet these July reports are reporting under a 1000 impressions- which doesn't jibe with my click through numbers.

You can bet either those Inventory numbers are going to change or they're going to have give out a LOT of fraudulent click refunds.

(I bet the inventory numbers will change.)

There is something very wrong about these numbers. For one of my keywords, the "searches done in july" figure is 5411, but I logged 29594 impressions according to the DTC reports.

Has anyone talked to anyone at Overture about this yet?

I thought I was losing it this morning. I'm noticing drops of way over 50% in their reported search volume. I can't believe it's accurate because I checked it against a number of OT accounts that we have been running for months and years and they just don't add up.

I hope it's just a glitch, I use this data a lot and have found it to be much more accurate for US search activitiy than WT.

Further, when I sell Overture Programs I always plug in search volume, an expected CTR, and my bid prices so that I can give an estimated budget to a client. This seems to really help people because many people are concerend that PPC is going to cost them a fortune. They think that they are going to get 100% click thru.

According to Overture their July inventory report and August impression numbers are "skewed"

We found huge differences. Also a large jump in impressions for the period July 31 thru Aug 6.

Typical of stats from our keyword list was LITERATURE HOLDER. For July the inventory report number was 89, the impressions 1996 and the impressions for Jul 1 - Aug 6 was 1534.

No explanation from Ov except to be assured that the clicks count we were charged for is totally accurate - of course

Yes, I also find some huge difference and some wierd keywords that never showed up before showing in first positions, resulting in some totaly unrelated stuff showing up in SE.

Yep ... check out message #4. OT UK did say that a few customers had reported the problem, and it was being referred to senior staff.

Hey- they just pulled the July results in the US.

They're only showing the June inventory.

Same here in the UK. Hopefully, July's results will be fixed when they reappear.

I e-mailed a link to this thread to our Platinum rep - he called and said they hadn't heard about this problem yet (that was a couple of hours ago) - and as you mentioned, they pulled down the results shortly thereafter. I wonder how long until they are back up again?

I am also seeing June results in here in Oz. But they too are minimal in quantity. Are people seeing normal June quantities for their terms?

June results look about right from the UK in the areas I usually track.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the new keyphrase matching options coming out this weekend. The suggestion tool has always reported impressions based off of the Matchdriver matching processes. It seems to me that the the way Matchdriver has typically matched keywords will have to change with the incorporation of a "broad match' option. It would make sense that this tool would yeild lower impression numbers if the Matchdriver matching process is no longer accomodating the "noise words" which would now be accounted for in the "broad match" option.(if its defined just as google's broad match.)

Possibly they have been testing something for the upcoming upgrade this weekend when you saw skewed numbers for July?

With the new "broad match" and "keyphrase match" options, the number of impressions you would get on a keyword will vary greatly depending on which match option one chooses. Upon which matching process will overture now report the number of impressions? Is this why Google's suggestion tool never reported impression numbers along with their suggested words?

Looks like Overture hopes to have corrections by the 17th.

This rec'd from them:

"Dear Overture Advertiser,

As you know, your monthly Activity Summary is typically sent to you at this time each month. We wanted to let you know that, due to a delay with our data systems, the July Activity Summary will not be sent to you until the week of August 17th.

We regret the delay and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Displays you need to take that email off. You are not allowed to post emails here. The mod will take it off for you but you should be nice and do it yourself.

It does not say a month any more. It just says Search Term Suggestion Tool.

It does not say a month any more. It just says Search Term Suggestion Tool.

It never did. You have to do a search and the resulting page will state the month that the results are relevant for.

No change.

Our Overture rep said that August search term suggestions will be available by the end of next week.
