On the 6th of this month I decided to make my debut into the world of PPC with a modest campaign using Overture.

I visited the site and selected and signed up for my first keyword (feeling very excited). I received a confirmation email from them welcoming me to the club and explaining that, for security reasons, they would phone me within the next 48 hours to confirm my details before my listing would go live....Fair enough!

On the 8th I received a notification that my listing had been approved (with a minor adjustment to keep in line with the listing guidelines). It also had a note saying that a representative would call me within the next 48 hours to confirm my details before my listing would go live....OK another 48 hours - I can wait.

9th - 11th - Still no call

On the 12th I received an email from an Overture representative stating that they still need to call me to confirm my details and could I provide my timezone and an appropriate time to call. I replied that I was in Sydney and that they could call anytime during business hours Sydney-time...Still no call.

On the 14th I received an email from a different Overture representative stating (as in the previous email) that they needed to call me and confirm my details. Again, I replied that they could call during business hours Sydney time....Still no call.

Today I received an email saying that due to the fact they have not been able to contact me that my listing was now offline (it had never made it as far as being online), and that they had refunded my credit card. It stated at the bottom that if I replied with my timezone and an appropriate time to call that a representative would call me....ARRGHHHH!

I know that it must make it difficult that our business hours and theirs never cross over due to the time difference, but surely I'm not the first person from Australia to apply for Overture!

What do I have to do to give them my cash?

I hope Google Adwords is more user friendly.....

I've noticed Overture has been very slow recently; it's taken a couple of weeks so far for them to make some changes to my account, and it's starting to bother me.

May have to take my money elsewhere soon...

I would have phoned them by now, after all I know they are providing a service to us, but I want to see my bids online.

Why do PPCs like Overture and FindWhat call up advertisers to "confirm" the card number? And what exactly are they confirming there - all they do is ask a few dumb questions (which real advertisers or fraudsters would have already entered into Overture).

Google doesn't do it - eventhough they are at a higher risk - since they provide traffic first and then try to bill the advertisers.
