Here is the printout of the results for one general keyword for the last 6 days on Overture. In previous threads in this forum and in the PPC forum there have been posts about improper featuring of certain keywords that are not directly search related. In other words, the partners of Over (or FindWhat, etc.) put a specific term on the front page of their websites and encourage excessive clicking. Note the 2nd last line. The first number is posistion which flucuated between 8 and 10. The second number is impressions. How can one term go from around 100 a day to 1500 on a Friday, generally a slower traffic day? This is a form of fraud as the click throughs are of no value. It is not a "search"!

But if it's an impression then it's not a click and won't cost you anything.

Spikes in impressions can be caused by a lot of things. Take for arguments the South African Revenue Service (I think it's the inland revenue there. You can bet your life that as a result of the epidemic, they are getting a lot more visits to their website as a result of this exposure in the media.

The impressions on this term have been very steady except for the unusual spikes that could only occur through manipulation. We have advertised under it for more than two years. It's a general term rather than a specific place so even news events should not affect it. The reason I posted this here was to add fuel to the discussion about unethical methods in the PPC world.

Yes, fair point, but to be fair your trying to stoke a fire when on the information provided there is none.

If you meant there were 1500 clicks then fair enough. Is that what you meant?
