I have keywords that I would like to set a max price of $0.60 on and I'm also utilizing a third party bid management tool to manange my bids. I want to be in as high a position as possible without exceeding my max spend amount so I set the max bid in overture to $0.60 on auto thinking that overture would not push my bids higher than that amount yet would only charge me a cent above my nearest competitor up to that amount.
Now, as I've said the bid manager goes there twice a day and closes bid gaps etc. I also have the max bid set in the bid management tool set to $0.60. The status emails that are sent to me indicate that it's manging bids accordingly and not pushing any keywords higher than my max price and obtaining the highest possible position.
The weird thing that I can't quite understand is that when I log into overture to view my bids some of them have gone as high as $1.06 and are sitting at number one. So the auto bidding feature must be pushing my bids to their highest position and changing my max bid amounts in between visits from the bid management tool.
Jeez, I'm confused. Can anyone clear the air?
If you set that up with the desire to be #1 it will over-ride the auto bidding facility on Overture and go with that.
Your particular piece of software may well be different, so I'd check with the help manual but certainly that seems to be what it sounds like.
It looks like there's something wrong with overture's bidding system. I've checked it out with the bid management service and their system is working correctly. Overture's got some explaining to do as far as I'm concerned since they've been overcharging for some time now. I'll let you know what they have to say...
