LookSmart bounces back from the dot-com crashFull-Text [theage.com.au]

LookSmart's clients pay "per click". That has meant development of accurate "click-tracking" systems, rethinking hardware, software and business processes. "It has taken us two years to get the revenue back to where it was at the height of the boom," [Damian] Smith said. "The growth rate is now faster and it is profitable growth. It cost us a lot to rejig our business, but we now have stronger margins. It's a lot more recession-proof ," he said.

"It's a lot more recession-proof". Hmm. but is it MSN proof? Would Looksmart survive without MSN using its listings?

I had my looksmart account converted from a directory listing to a ppc version. At first I recieved no traffic from it then all of a sudden I am hit with a growing amount of clicks at 180 bucks per month. And quite possibly some of my best sales originated from those last month since that became a main feed to MSN (those clicks seem to spend money). That was becasue I vetoed spending money with Overture for a month due to their inconsistent applications of TOS policy. Looksmart does make a good backup listing...
