jsut started a new PPC campaign for a niche based client. I am in the process of tweaking my titles and descriptions. Whats a good click rate %? I am around 5-10% when my bids are in the top 3, can I do better?

This is a question that is really unanswerable by anyone but you. It's all going to depend on your product, keyword, title & description, and the prevailing winds.

depending on your niche theme/topic. It would make sense to use the keyword suggestion tools on overture, wordtracker, espotting, bidsmart and any others you can get hold of.

They will tell you the most popular phrases related to your theme/topic and are a good guide as to what keywords to use in your copy/links/title/description etc.

From the number of searches per month/day each resource gives you per keyword, you can probably guesstimate a CTR depending on the set of keywords.

But as stated by HawkGirl it largely depends on your keywords, title, description, product, and indeed the wind direction.....

Don't forget, a really good title and description will be what attracts a users attention and not necessarily your position.

Although me saying that, you can call me a hypocrite cause one of the engines don't actually list any listings under a certain bid amount so if you are bidding under that bid amount limit, you may not even be visible in that engine at all.

On some keywords you may get 100% i.e. it's searched for once and you get clicked once.... and that's usually because it's a niche phrase, and you have a niche set of eyeballs looking for you.

In some sectors for some keywords if you get 0.5% you are doing well and will get good ROI, a sexier title and call to action may get that up to 0.7 or 0.8 which should corellate to a bigger ROI all things being equal.

I'd say if you were in a niche market then 5-10% is probably very low for a top 3 position, but it depends on the ads you have and the competitors you are up against. If there are no competitors and you are not getting a good CTR then your copy probably doesn't hit the message home.

Good luck!

Your "Click Rate" is not that accurate as "OV" claims it to be. If you look the the " per day" number on the manage bids page, it's being affected by "scripts" that are ran to check (I guess) OV bids.

According to OV the only number that is correct is the "Suggestion Tool" numbers. They have a filter that, that removes "script" searches.

I am also trying to do a specific marketing for a few KW's but, the only way that I can tell how many searches were done for a specific KW, it to wait until the "Suggestion Tool" data is made available every month. I would have to do the math manually.

This is info from OV themselves. They claim to be working on this, but I think it's will take too much on their part, so they may not be doing anything.

Look at your monthly data, you'll see the difference in the "Suggestion Tool" data, vs. the monthly data's report.

So in short, you could be doing better than you think. It's been my experience that position 1-3 get most of the cliks. 1 and 2 are about even.

Hope this helps.

ya this all helps, but by the way I have adjusted my descriptions and the site is around 18% now, not that it means much.
