Google Position rating less important than Overture

Ad Copy more important than placement in Google

In Overture, being in the top 3 is the most important. However I have found that it does
not matter where you are in Googles Adwords Select. The CTR does not change much.

Im not sure if this is due the fact that the user is scaning left to right with Google, as compared with top to bottom with Overture.

Also Overture generates most of if traffic from other sites, where Google obtains most of its traffic from its own site.

Its appear that good ad copy is the most important factor to get good results from Google Adwords select.

I wouldn't generalize that. Probably depends on the keyword and the "quality" of ads in the first 3 places. If the visitor finds what he/she wants with the top listings, why would he/she click on your ads?

And remember, if you are not in the first 3 places, you won't see any traffic from AOL and other partners.

Recent posts indicate that only 20-25% of traffic comes from Google partner Sites, where over 85% comes from Overture partners, however.

40% of my Adwords traffic is delivered by AOL :)
So again, this depends on the keywords!

Google.com is unquestionably the world's most popular search engine, so it would make sense most AdWords get clicked there. Overture.com is amongst the least popular "search engines". 99% of the clicks there are competitors clicking on eachother to run accounts dry.

If this is the case, then my competitors are buying things from my site through overture ads at an alarming rate (at least for people just trying to run my account dry). :)

Who has the time to do that, really? What good does it do them? 99%of the time... Hmm... sounds more like sour grapes.

Yeah, our competitors are converting at pretty good rates too. Gosh I love competitors.

I've stumbled on AdWords ads in some interesting places like Dogpile. I think over time the Google AdWords will show up more on syndicated sites than the Google=owned sites, so that'll probably drive more click-throughs to the top 3 results like has happened with Overture.

I meant to refer to overture clicks coming exclusively from overture.com (not MSN or Yahoo). I think when competitors see "$8.87" next to a listing it makes for a very entertaining 1/2 second diversion.

Conversion rates for overture listings overall might be good, but I could do without the ones coming from overture.com
