However the exposure that Y will give to such a program will be such that it will substantially increase the number of publishers, which makes me still conclude that for most of us this will be a disaster.
I don't think it will substantially increase the number of publishers. It might go up some, but not a lot. I think the cream of the publisher crop has already become Adsense publishers. Some will go over to Yahoo for the diversification, but only when new publishers sign up is advertising space going up.
I think Adsense already has the best of the internet because look at how they are asking people to recommend a friend to the program. Google is also having their employees "cold call" non-AS website publishers as was related in another thread.
+ defined percentage split
+ no smart pricing, let competitive bidding decide prices paid for ads
+ direct deposit option for all countries
+ ability to use the Yahoo publisher earnings on Yahoo search marketing campaigns directly and easily
+ at least comperative amount of options for ads (leaderboards, skycrapers, color options etc) as Adsense
+ personal account executive for accounts on the 10k+ category earnings per month
+ only quality sites accepted to the program, and each website accepted individually (thus a departure from the Adsense "get approved on one website, add the ads to all your sites" policy)
They could pay publishers weekly or fortnightly instead of monthly.
Not economically feasible.
Think about why the airlines stopped putting a slice of lettuce under your food
- turned out it was $300 million a year spent on that slice of disposable lettuce
Point is, it's extra overhead per transaction unless YOU want to absorb the transaction fees.
I'd much prefer they give me the extra money and keep their stinking lettuce.
Yeah but we're talking about ways yahoo can lure existing adsense publishers to their contextual ad network. To tempt current adsense publishers to switch is going to cost yahoo that slice of lettuce initially.
Yahoo can't just offer the same program as Google, there has to be some incentive, some significant difference for publishers to jump ship - Be that a larger slice of the profit pie, or some other incentive.
Otherwise Yahoo will just be welcoming onboard those banned from the adsense program, or those unhappy with adsense in some other way....A small percentage of publishers.
If they can't offer weekly or fortnightly payments what about a standard date for payment? A date everyone knows is the one the check is sent or the money is deposited in the account.
I like Wallyworld's idea of a signing bonus.
A (real-time?) control panel that allows me to check my account for fraudulent clicks with flags such as:
- this IP has high CRT
- this IP has high clicks
- this page has high CTR
(of course, IP could be scrambled in the form 123.123.123.#*$! for privacy etc.)
then, I could select whether:
- stop (temporarily?) showing ads to this IP
- forfeit earnings from this IP
- forward the case to their controllers
Believe me, that's a job a scrupolous publisher would love to be doing!
