It's the end of an era for Yahoo Messenger as it has now confirmed the service will close on July 17,2018. Users will be able to continue to use it up until then, but after that date, users won't be able to access their chats. Downloads for the archive will be available for a further six months.

By far the best Instant messaging system I've used. I guess that nowadays it was blasted by Facebook, Twitter, Snapschat, etc...

By the way, thanks for the link, and good to see there is a tool to download archives. Before it was a mess to get the archives, (one day at a time)

I had forget all about Yahoo Messenger. That may be a reason for its demise.

All things come to an end. Can't say I'm surprised (or sad) Messenger is done.

Note:

I used the download archive tool provided. After 24 hours the archive was ready to download, but it covers only the period 2016,217,2018, and not before. Hopefully, I used to archive myself conversations. So, for those who would like to archive their Yahoo IM conversations you might have to go manually to get everything.

to complete what I said above, after 48 I received a "second" notification that my archives were available, with a "second" file, so I assumed that they had split the archives in several files, which would make sense, and explain why the first archive only contained the last 3 years of chat,... but this second file, is exactly the same (and on the download page, the show TWO links, so it's not the same file they sent me again ..
