Yahoo was hit with another hack in August 2013 of over 1 billion accounts including names, emails, telephone numbers, and birth dates, although Yahoo says no credit card details were stolen as they are on a different system. The theft may also include unencrypted security questions.

Yahoo says users should visit the Safety Center [safety.yahoo.com...]

...including Names, Emails, Telephone and Birth Dates
Birth Dates...? How could they let this happen!

Yes, this is really bad, and will haunt Yahoo's users for many years as the data is trawled through and used, building profiles of people for identity theft.

It's a good thing I use false identities for most things that don't need my life story.

Yes, and it's only just been revealed. It's shocking in many respects.

I see this as being a lot like the last "hack" by the time Yahoo informed users it was so late for anything to be done about it. Any harm will already have been done. Almost 4 years to report a data leak on this scale is far to long.

Then they go through the whole 9 yards about changing your passwords and other login security.

Because when it comes to a 2013 hack, time is of the essence!

I agree super70s, and it seems they may not even have noticed the hack. It's shameful for a Net-based business, imho.

The moment the data is taken it'll be used for something, and even if it's just a phone number it can be useful to scammers to make calls. I know from experience that the phone scammers will keep coming years after the hack.

Wait. Anyone seriously has a real birthday and a real phone on their Yahoo account?

Other than 1/1/1971 and 123-123-1234 or some similar.

I am shocked. People don't learn.
