We're looking into integrating our Web-served XML output with an automatic answering system.

The idea is that callers can dial into an automated table that will give information on events and locations with no need for human intervention.

Our database already has an XML export, and I can write XSLT.

I found out about VXML [w3.org], but I'm not aware of implementations.

One use might be that we contract with a VXML-aware answering service (don't know if such a critter exists). This way, they could hook to our Web service for the vast majority of calls, yet escalate to humans for other matters.

Does anyone have experience they could share on this subject?

That's kinda what I figured. I'll do some research. It's not a big hurry.
