Question about Photoshop Elements 6

If a program will run on Vista, will it almost certainly run on Win 7?

Specifically, I want to purchase an older copy of Photoshop Elements 6 (not the new ver 8) to put on a HP Win 7 laptop, but will not buy it if it cannot run on the new OS.

Would appreciate any feedback if anyone has put PS Ele 6 on a Win 7 machine, or is pretty sure that all Vista programs can be installed OK...

I haven't run that particular version on Windows 7, but PSE 7 & 8 work fine. I don't see why it wouldn't work, however if it's a deal breaker for you then Adobe Support would be the people to ask.

Windows 7 is essentially Vista Service Pack 3. That's simplifying things a bit, but in general there isn't that much difference between them. You should be able to run software that runs on Vista on 7 in most cases.

Thanks Bill. I found a new unopened copy of PSE 6 on eBay for not much $$ so will give it a shot. From other reading I've done, I may have to run it in compatibility mode because my HP laptop with Win 7 is 64 bit, but that would be fine. If it doesn't work then I'll install PSE 6 on an old desktop computer I have here and will get PSE 8, though at a requirement of 1 GB of RAM, it seems like much more of a graphics program than I really need. Will report back what I find when I do the installation later this week...

Depending on the version of Windows 7 you have it might be possible to run it in XP Mode. That's like running it in an XP virtual machine. Do keep us posted on how it goes.

Received PSE 6 in today's mail and it installed on my HP Win 7 64-bit laptop with no problem -- did not even need to go into compatibility mode. I've only played with the program for a short while, but from what I can see, it will work exactly the way I had hoped...
