Windows 7 countdown parties start in Japan

The countdown to the release of Windows 7 has begun in Japan. In a few hours (from the time of this post), electronics stores across the nation begin a series of pre-launch events. If you're in Japan (and can read Japanese) there's a post with links to many of these events [akiba-pc.watch.impress.co.jp]. Windows 7 will be on sale after midnight.

Microsoft Japan has a page with information about various launch events across Japan beginning on October 22.

They have events scheduled in the major electronics stores/chains. Not all of the events are on the 22nd though. Some are more conveniently scheduled on the weekends when more people can attend (the 24th & 25th).

I will try to drop by one of these events to see what's going on. I probably won't stay up until midnight as I've already got my copies of Windows 7.

Anyone going to stay up until midnight to get your copy of Windows 7?

I don't think I'll upgrade my XP copies that run in parallels to get to IE 6, IE7 and IE8 anytime soon. Certainly not going to anything like that, ever.
