Hello, I am new to this website and forums. Am also very green when it comes to webhosting!

I would like some advice on how to protect cPanel accounts on my VPS. Specifically, I want to make sure that to the outside world they remain completely separate and that it is impossible to link cPanel acct-A to cPanel acct-B.

Does that make sense?

Hi SenecaFalls and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

That would be the type of question best asked of your host since only they will know how they set it up.

Most hosts I have used for VPS do configure CPanels in a VPS to be completely separate by assigning a user and account to each instance and configuring the server to require that. It is not impossible that a server is set up differently. Your host can easily answer your specific question. There really is no way for people who can't view that server configuration to answer your question though, so you should ask your host.

I wouldn't be here if I thought the people at my webhsot ahd a clue... ;-)

Here is what I am trying to do...

I have a VPS with a primary IP address and my business website. And I want to set up another "work area" on my VPS where I can share files with people who are helping me out with some things. The problem is that any files I put out in this work area should be completely "siloed" from my main account? Why? Because I do not want the people helping me out to be able to link back to my main cPanel account and IP address and then my businses and me in real life. (These people are in another online forum, and know me by a username, but that it's it, and that is how I want to keep it.)

I figured if I get a 2nd IP address and a 2nd cPanel account, then that should make it pretty difficult for anyone access this 2nd website to link it back to my primary website, however, I am no security or networking expert, so I fugure I better find someone who is and ask them.

As to the comments above about "we don't know your cofiguration" that shouldn't matter, because I am asking in genral how to accomplish this goal.

Not sure if this is more of a WHM or cPanel or system admin or networking or security question, but am really hoping some of you can shed some light on this topic!
