Am I imagining things or is the [ CODE ] style command new? I can't seem to find an annoucement about it...

It does not preserve whitespace nor the broken pipe symbol. The former would open up posts to all those kinds of manipulation that are to be prevented by deleting multiple characters following each other. The latter is a character encoding issue that would take a lot of work to fix and possibly open up other encoding issues.
