Just saw this, Deprecated - Search Engine Submission.

thought we could mourn a bit, once so important, and now you need links instead, sniff sniff.

Kudos to eljefe3 for doing a good job.

laz, when you think about it, how many search engines are there to submit to any more? The old "we create meta tags and submit your site every month for top search engine rankings" routine is a little outworn, and people still are seeing that out there - and believing it. They've not heard that here ever, but by the time some get here they've already wasted their time and money, which would have been better spent elsewhere.

I'm the type who's usually thoughtful about adjusting to change, but imho this is definitely one that'll helpful to people, especially those new to promotion. Any submitting done now has to be part of a PLAN. That's covered in Search Engine Promotion [webmasterworld.com] as far as general promotion strategy is concerned, or the individual engines.

Marcia, I really wish this would go away. What really upsets me is that some of the more visible names in our industry still promote this type of advertising. It's mainly bait for the unsuspecting consumer and it really preturbs me to see it so rampant.
