Have not been appearing in my "recent posts" list. Its the only one I am aware of, but there may be others
Ya, from time to time threads are pulled off the active list. Mostly, it is those threads that we perceive as not being a benefit to the community or have problems associated with them. Additionally, threads can be set not to be indexed by search engines - those will fall of the active list so that spiders won't run into them. Lastly, threads can be marked as members only and will be only visible if you are logged in.
I feel those policies and actions are appropriate for the community as a whole. We don't want to turn on the "karma" or "thread ranking" system at this point as we prefer to let the system work as it is suppose to. However, there are problem threads that creep up from time-to-time that we would just as soon see fade away fast and the "off active" command tends to do that. It's not used very often.
